The ASO Welcomes Dr Sam Whittle as our 2026-2028 President
It is our pleasure to announce that Dr Sam Whittle has been elected the Australian Society of Orthodontists’ (ASO) 36th President.
Dr Whittle brings a wealth of experience in clinical practice and higher education. He is a member of many prestigious professional associations and has served on various ASO Federal committees and the SA and NSW state executives for over 25 years. Most recently, he served as the Chair of the Constitution and Policy Committee from 2022 to 2026.
Dr Whittle has been a registered specialist orthodontist for over 30 years. After graduating from The University of Adelaide he joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Dental Officer. He returned to The University of Adelaide to complete his Orthodontic training and in 1995 became Orthodontist to the Royal Australian Navy before retiring in 1998 as the Fleet Dental Officer. He and his young family returned to Adelaide and it was during this time he developed a love for clinical teaching at graduate and post-graduate levels. In late 2001 he and his family moved to Canberra and in early 2013, Dr Whittle opened Corinna St Orthodontics where he continues to practice.
Giving back to the dental and wider community is close to his heart. After earlier teaching experiences at the University of Adelaide, he began travelling each month to tutor University of Sydney postgraduate orthodontic residents. In 2017 he changed his teaching duties to The University of Adelaide where he continues to tutor post-graduate orthodontics. In Canberra, he spent eight years as a Board Member at Canberra Grammar School.
Dr Whittle is married to Heather, and they have three adult sons. He enjoys sport, especially cricket, rugby union, and skiing. Until recently, he was a senior rugby referee in Canberra, where he coached and mentored school-aged referees and served as President of the ACT Rugby Referees Association. More recently, he has pursued his passion for flying and is now a student pilot at Canberra Airport.
Dr Whittle looks forward to advancing the Society’s strategic plan and is committed to supporting members in their professional lives, as well as advocating on their behalf for the benefit of the orthodontic profession in Australia and fostering the ASO’s international relationships.
We also wish to express our profound gratitude to outgoing President Dr Roslyn Mayne and her executive Drs Francis Wong and Kip Homewood for their dedicated leadership and commitment to the Society and to the profession over the past two years.
Please join us in welcoming Dr Whittle and his Executive Drs Ray Te Moananui and Doreen Ng.
